What kind of plants grow in the shade?

I have a side of my house that is shaded for most of the day. What kinds of plants will grow there?? Will Hosta plants do well there? What plants or flowers do well in shade? I have Begonias that flower all summer and winter inside the house, in a well lit window, not sun. But I haven't had luck with the begonias in the shade.
