They sell text kits online or when it gets a little warmer, most stores that sell pools will also sell the water test kids. It seems like you only need to test the water if you add chemicals though.
also a place that deals in hot tubs has the kits...they are a PH test kit...a lot of garden store or Lowes n Home Depot that sell small pond kits have them as well...on a side note if it is standing water (meaning no pump moving the water) you might want to invest in misquito pellets. The pellets keep the misquito larvae at bay...
Take the water to a pool supply store. Most will test it for free. I take in a pint mason jar. They give me the printout with the results.
