How to protect and frame an odd shaped mirror that has flaking edges?

Are there flexible products to slip over the edges?

Mirror backing is flaking off the edges

Angled edge on top of mirror makes a straight frame difficult

I don't see a mirror in the picture, unless that is the mirror on the right edge of the bottom picture. What looks like is flaking to me is the paint on the trim around the mirror. That you should be able to sand down and repaint after taping off the mirror. You could also remove the trim on top of the mirror to put some kind of frame around the mirror.

I guess it will depend on how handy you are and what you want the results to look like. My first thought was stain glass trim. It could be cut to fit the edges and the angled part. You can make a wooden frame and use trim on the inner edge to hold the mirror in place. That way the inset can fit the window the outer edge can be what ever shape you want. You could even make a simple frame and do a mosaic around the mirror.

If that's not your goal you could even use duct tape trimmed down, around the edge then glue some type of decorative accent to the duct tape like fabric, rope, seashells, etc.

There maybe flexible material that would clip on or slide on. I'm not familiar with where to get it but we have it in our fridge in the shelves. Hope these ideas help.

You could paint the rope too. I did this and it came out just perfect. I suspect any kind of paint will do but I used what I already had. Was an indoor/outdoor gloss paint. No brush, try using a sponge.

Why not just cover the edge and part of the mirror by using a nice wood trim and mounting it right to the mirror with 3M magic hook mounts? That is what I did in the before and after pictures below.

That’s a lovely job. I may see if the hardware store has frame materials.

I used silver duct tape on a picture frame and it turned out pretty good. It was my first time attempting a project like this. All I can say is practice a little on "something" then, slow and steady.
