Custom Wall Mosaic
We have a lounge in our office that we use for small meetings. It has a relaxed feel and is a favorite spot for casual gatherings. The lounge is used daily, so we decided to enhance the room by creating a focal wall with a glass mosaic.
We chose a translucent, glass mosaic that blended perfectly with the colors in our room. Our particular mosaic didn't have a mesh backing, but was mounted with a paper face. This allowed the translucent glass to look perfect and seamless after completion!
We removed the paper once the mosaic was installed and had fully cured. To remove the paper, we simply wet it with a damp sponge, allowed it to begin to release (Usually 15-30 min), and pulled it off slowly at a 45 degree angle.
Once we removed the paper, we had small amounts of glue residue and thinset that we had to remove before grouting. Taking extra time in the small areas always pays off!
We decided to use a urethane grout, Bostik Dimension in color Diamond, with our glass mosaic.
The grout comes premixed and has a creamy texture that spreads smoothly.
It also has micro glass beads in it that allow it to not only reflect light but also let it pass through it. This in turn makes the grout take on the colors in the mosaic!
One of our favorite things about the grout is the built-in urethane sealer; so it never requires additional sealing. It's also perfect for Commercial or Residential projects as it offers a lifetime stain resistance and superior crack resistance .
The grout really enhanced the reflective and three dimensional appearance of our glass mosaic!
The spotlights in the room pick up the translucent nature of the glass and grout and really make the wall shine.
We think the finished project turned out perfectly! What do you think?
