How can I get rid of cigarette smoke stink?

Is there anything on the market that can get rid of cigarette stink?? I've tried everything. One room only, but it affects my whole 13 room house.

    • Entire room needs to be washed from ceilings to floors, including the rug or carpets. Every item needs to be cleaned and quarantined until the room itself is clean. Use TSP on the ceilings and walls. Then repaint. Vinegar is the least expensive way to wash things down. The smell is temporary for long term gain. Have the carpets and drapes professionally cleaned.

I used a deodorizing paint. Kilz will help too. I know it sucks to paint a whole house but it made such a huge difference. Good luck!

Cigarette smoke sticks to window / door glass. Wash inside of windows with cold water soap powder. My warm soapy water became yellow from the stain. Tip from a professional glass cleaner.

  • My father used to run a turn key service and swears by ozone generators for homes permeated with smoke odors, even after cleaning and painting. You set it in front of a box fan and let it run for 30 minutes on a timer. You can't have people or pets in the home while you run it or 30 minutes afterwards.

This is the one he used and it comes with the timer: https://www.foreverozone.com/collections/air-ozone-generators-for-odors-mold-green-pest-control/products/3500-mg-h-bare-bones-ozone-generator

He gave one to me after he retired and I used it for a car someone smoked in. It did an amazing job of clearing the smell out. I use it for getting cigarette smoke odors out of furniture I've bought at thrift stores too.

Smoke goes everywhere. Wash what you can. Prime the walls and ceiling with oilbased primer because tar and nicotine will bleed thru latex paint alone. Clean wooden furniture with lemon oil then put a bowl of activated charcoal in each drawer. There are specialty sponges for smoke damage that can be used on lampshades and wallpaper. You can buy activated charcoal wherever they sell aquarium supplies. Give it time. It can be a while before the smell leaves the rest of the house, but it will.

Oh I totally understand you! My husband is smoking very often. He doesn't always go outside and likes to smoke in the living room. I don't like the smell of smoke and I always use air fresheners. It is also interesting that it seems he is used to the smell of smoke and just does not feel it. Recently I noticed that the furniture in the living room, especially the sofa and chairs had absorbed the smells. I had to order a professional furniture cleaner to get rid of the smell. Also I thought about to order ozone generators, but after I read this article I realized how it is dangerous https://www.damagecontrol-911.com/dangerous-homemade-ozone-generator/. So, I continue to use air fresheners and once a month I order dry cleaning.
