How to re-use step down end tables?

Nice looking and appear to be in good condition. I'd clean the leather with a good quality leather conditioner and oil the wood, then leave as is. They will only go up in value if you keep them in good condition and not paint them.

You could paint them. Depending on the condition of the pads on whether to leave or remove. I would think a cream color with a slight glaze. You can also paint the hardware. RustOleum makes a very good product, I prefer the hammered finish on hardware.

Do you want to leave them intact/the same? as 2dogal suggests Just spruce them up. Or sand them down, remove leather, prime, paint, seal, add ceramic,marble or even metal to replace leather. I agree that leaving them as is and cleaning them up would be a good choice. How often do you see furniture like this these days, clean and condition the leather and use good nourishing wood cleaner on the wood and use them in your décor.

I love them just the way they are!! I would use them! It looks like all they need is some polish and they will shine!!

Clean them and oil the leather,, they are beautiful antiques.. After cleaning and oiling the leather, i would buy two small cute baskets that would fit to slide into the little area inside the top and bottom part.. they would look updated without doing anything to them...baskets are always a great look in any decor and adds some storage space too, for books, or whatever,,,... :)

Those are beautiful! Please don’t paint over the gorgeous leather tops! I would just condition the wood and leather very well. They are a classic!

I can tell I am old. These antique tables are very similar to mine that my late husband and I bought shortly after we were married in 1963. I have the matching coffee table also but mine do not have leather......just maple and the finish is almost like new (no children)....I would not consider painting !!

I would not paint them either....How about getting a basket to fit under the top portion of your table....you will probably have a lamp on the top shelf. The basket should be the same color as your table. Change the drawer pull, keep the old one for later. Another thing you might do is find a carpenter that can make a drawer that sits under the top shelf ....not fastened, just sitting for storage and to change the looks of your table. Pull could match the pull on your drawer. This is only IF you want to change the looks of your tables temporarily. This is just something to think about.

Look for some trays to fit the lower back section in a print or color you like but if nothing else sell them to an antique dealer but do not destroy the value by painting or anythingthat would damage or devalue them.

I had some similar from the 50s. I decoupaged old pages from an old sears catalog and used them in our cabin. They looked great!

Our family had a set of these tables from about 1950, in mahogany, but otherwise very similar. What I would give to have those tables now! They were sent to furniture heaven when colonial came in.
