How do I decorate to go with this quilt?

I bought this quilt set mainly for the bright colors. I’m not going for the beach theme. And did not buy the matching throw pillows. My walls are recently painted off white and I’m needing ideas for decorating over the bed. This is actually for a new master bedroom. I’m tired of beiges etc. and looking for uplifting and fun. I have a small crafting closet in there too and had it painted Salmon.Thank you, Toni.

  • Love the salmon craft closet color! That will coordinate nicely with this quilt. Are you looking to make an art piece? Or buy something? I would pull some of the happy colors out of the quilt and coordinate with the salmon color.

I am looking for art or diy, anything. I have a window seat I’m planning a Salmon/Coral color pad for.

How about painting a simple, folk-art type picture of a salmon salmon with some of the other colors added in as sea water, shells, coral, etc. Love that quilt!! It would look great above the bed. Have some other objects with those colors around the room. Such happy colors! Where did you find the quilt, if you don't mind my asking?

I found it at Maci’s online. It’s a Vera Bradley. I don’t shop VB so I had no idea they made quilts .

      thanks for your suggestions.

You could try a Pinterest (or Google) search for turquoise and salmon rooms, Bohemian bedroom decor, or something similar and just look at pictures until you see something that you like.

You should go on Etsy and look at fluid paintings. They come in a variety of colours and sizes. I put artwork above my bed and it changed the look of my room. It really added an upscale feel. I have three pieces that go together to make one picture. I spaced them about a half inch apart and they were almost the same width of the bed. As long as you don’t go wider than the bed or too small it should look amazing!

I do fluid painting myself and if you can’t find what you’re looking for exactly most of us do commissions as well so you can get the same colors as your quilt for example.

OK, just be careful. One color has to be dominant, like 2/3 to 1/3. Take a look at the quilt. There is about twice as much blue as salmon. That's good. So right now if you do nothing else your salmon craft closet might have made the colors about 50 50. That's not so good. So decide which is going to be the dominant color and go heavy with that one and the other is an accent which means you use about half as much of it in the room.

I'm not sure. I would have to see it. You could add more of the blue color somewhere else and then it wouldn't matter, like throws rug, curtains, artwork. You just shouldn't have equal amounts of the warm and cool colors in the room.

Since the color is so amazing, how about a few DIY dirty-pour acrylic paintings. So easy and fun to do. Just purchase the colors you're going for and some stretched canvases the sizes you like, mix, pour and you're done. Check out the how-to's on YouTube to see if it's a thing you might be interested in. I love doing them!
