How can I fix a gap in my french door?

I have a strong wind coming through about a half inch gap between my door and the jamb. It is on the side with the door knob. The latch secures into the strike plate and weather strip is in place....how do I correct this?

You may require a thicker rubber gasket. You can also purchase a roll of the foam tape which has a sticky backing and put that in place to stop the drafts. This is best installed in warmer weather so the tape sticks properly

You don't. It is not a Flaw. Gap up to 1/2 inch is by design so the Doors open easily in All Seasons, (as Wood Expands In Humidity).

If you move those even a farthing closer they will rub in the Humid Summer.

Thus, leave it be. If you mind a Draft, buy a Sweater:

A Sweater can more easily be taken off in the Summer

than a Door or Hinge or Insulation Tape.

Otherwise buy a Windsock and Stuff it in there.

Try more weather strip on the jam

  • I'm going to guess you need to get better or a different type of weatherstripping. HERE ARE MANY CHOICES.
