Cozy Thrifted Sweater Wreath

I knew I wanted to create a wreath for my front door, and had seen the idea to use a scarf or sweater on Pinterest. So I headed off to my local Goodwill...and lucky for me all the sweaters were 30% off. So I picked up these two for only $6!! I wanted a gray one for my wreath, but decided to get both sweaters because of the great patterns on each. I'm sure I'll be able to find something to do with the other one soon ;)

Supplies:

1 sweater with long sleeves

1- 18" foam wreath form

Hot glue gun

Yarn

Thread/twine

First I cut the sleeves off it the sweater.

I cut the sleeves down the seam to separate them. Then I cut the sleeves down the middle, so I had 4 pieces total.

I used a 18" foam wreath form that I found at Joann Fabric's in the clearance section. It was split on one side- but a little hot glue fixed it right up. And since it's being covered, it doesn't matter. So check out the floral department of your local craft store next time you're in- because this is a great way to get a wreath form cheaply :)

I started by gluing one of the sleeve pieces to the wreath form. I glued mine at an angle- because I liked the way it looked wrapped that way. But depending on the sweater you use, you might want to wrap it differently. Just play with it before hot gluing it down.

Keep going around the wreath form with the sweater strips, until it's covered. I used all four strips to cover an 18" wreath.

To add to the coziness factor of my wreath, I decided to make some pom-poms out of this fuzzy yarn that I had.

All you need is yarn, thread or twine and scissors to make the pom-poms. First wrap the yarn around your fingers. I used 3 fingers for mine, but you can use more or less- depending on the size you want.

After you wrap the yarn, take a piece of thread or twine and tie it around the middle of your wrapped yarn.

Next take a longer piece of yarn (this is what you will be using to attach your pom-pom to the wreath) and lay it in the middle of the thread or twine you used to tie the pom-pom with.

Tie the thread or twine to the longer piece of yarn.

Next you cut the loops on both ends of the pom-pom- so now it looks like a pom-pom!

The yarn will be uneven after you cut the loops. So use scissors to trim around the pom-pom until it's all even. This part will get a bit messy ;)

I used more of the yarn to wrap the top of the wreath where I wanted to attach the pom-poms.

I love the soft and cozy feel of this sweater wreath! It makes my snowy front porch feel warm and welcoming- and it's the perfect addition for winter. And I love that I only paid $3 for the sweater and already had everything else on hand. Chic and cheap!
