How can I brighten the cabinet doors in this bathroom?

I painted the hall bathroom mink and really like the color but I think I need to paint the cabinet doors white or white wash them to brighten room & for contrast too. (There are also cabinets under sink to right of photo.) Any suggestions? I have a dark teal sponged border at top of room. (can't see much of it in photo - cropped it off when pic was attached) Used barn bridle brackets, painted white, for towel hangers since we have a horse barn. Any ideas about adding something to wall behind claw foot tub?

I like the idea of pulling one of those great colors from the boards shown and dry - brushing it onto the cabinet door center panels. That way you still have that beautiful mink paint, but it's brightened up by the weathered look of the panels.

I like the color. You can always dry brush a lighter shade on top. Use what you have and add some white paint to it. Try it out on a piece of scrap wood and hold it up to the cabinet to see the amount of lighter paint you want. To dry brush just dip into the paint and drag the brush on scrap of wood until there is almost no paint left on it. Gently stroke the brush on the surface of the door to just add highlights in the lighter shade.

Choose one of the ligher colors from the boards. The creamy white with gray marbeling is very nice. (One on the middle bottom row)

  • Or you could pick one of the light greenish blue colors for the cabinets, that would highlight the wood and tie everything together.

  • Do you want to make the cabinets a focal point? Painting them would do that. I think it's lovely as is. The cabinets recede into the background and the lovely wood wall is the focal point.

If you'd like to bring the cabinets more into view, choose one of the colours from the wood. The lighter a colour you choose, the brighter the result and the more the cupboard will "pop". By matching a colour from the wood, it will tie the room together. It will end up looking disjointed if you choose another colour that isn't already part of the room.

Pull the color from the boards onto the center panels or actually use the boards themselves. Glue them in a vertical pattern To the middle panels. Cut the boards a little short on top, bottom and sides so you can use trim pieces to given It a more finished high end look. .

I think the doors are the perfect color. They aren't the focal point and changing the color will break up the beautiful flow you have in the room. Add color with towels, candles, artwork, greenery, etc. You have a very sophisticated rustic look. I would not change the door color.

I'm going in a different direction here - I'd paint the walls a lighter color (one from the boards). You already love the mink color of the cabinets and they're also a pain to repaint. Using a lighter color on the walls will make the room brighter and you can keep the cabinets the color you love! 😎
