How can I insulate doorknobs that are on my front and back doors?

I find that when the wind blows, the air from outside causes a draft to come through my doorknobs! Right now I hang a coat on them but it would be nice not to have to do that! Thanks!

  • There is thin insulation for outlets, maybe check for doorknobs. Or add a decorative 'plate' they make for doorknobs. I'd use thin insulation on that as well.

Use duct tape. Cut it in a circle that will be hidden by the trim piece. Cut a very small hole in the center to allow the shaft of the mechanism slip through.

Loosen the knob on the inside of the door and try to either push some loose insulation into the open space or blow in some foam, but be sure to keep the foam away from the mechanism and spray only on the sides.

GO to Lowe's & they've gotta door knob draft stopper called a bracket that goes behind the door knob on the door to prevent drafts. Remove the door knobs, attach the bracket to the door & put back the door knobs. They add a decorative accent to your doors plus prevents drafts. Get 4, 2 for the insides & 2 for the outsides. They come in all different styles & colors. Easy fix. We did it to ours with the brass brackets. Looks quite good. Good Luck.
