Valentine Heart Tree DIY - Upcycled Pie Tins
This project came about when I "inherited" a whole bunch of empty aluminum pie tins. And when I say inherited I mean a friend that knows I make things from trash asked if I wanted them. Anyway I had already used the flat bottoms of the tins on another project which left me with all the cut of edge pieces. For while I pondered what I could do with them and after a bit I thought about making this tree.
The process is fairly simple but it does take some time.
To start the tree I used some pliers to twist three pieces of the pie tin together to form the trunk, roots and branches.
I used the pliers to twist and smash the pie tins to create the first three branches and three roots.
To attach more branches I cut smaller pieces, shaped them with the pliers and then used the pliers to twist and smash the pieces together.
Here is how it looked after adding some additional larger branches.
And here is is after adding some smaller branches.
To decorate the tree I used some of the flat scrap pieces of the pie tin to make some conversation hearts. I put little thread loops on each of them and then used a little bit of clear gorilla glue to keep them in place on the tree.
For the final step I added two little love birds.
You can see the whole process in the attached video.
