How do I get rid of drywall with slats in my mobile home?

I have drywall with slats in my mobile home, I want that look gone, I need ideas on ways to get rid of them w/o nudging and sanding?

    You can't fill cracks in drywall without mudding and sanding,those slats as you call them are batten strips

    You could use paintable caulking or try to get caulk in a color that matches or co-ordinates.

    You want the look gone you will need to remove the slats, fill the gaps with No shrink drywall patching compound. Sand smooth, prime, and paint. I did that in my daughter's modular home. No way around it.

    William's answer seems like the best bet. Another option would be to cover old drywall with new 3/8" drywall and mud, tape, and sand. However, that's a lot of work and electrical boxes will need extenders.
