Hi Sherry. A power washer could be your best friend here! It's a messy job, but will save your back and hours of work. Let it dry well, then apply a high adhesive concrete primer. Let that dry. Roll or brush on your new color of concrete paint. Sherwin Williams makes a great primer and paint specifically for concrete. I did my patio and steps a few years ago, and it's held up through torrential rain and super hot sun. I'll be doing my driveway next😊

I would start with pressure washing. That should easily remove anything loose. Depends on the thickness as to whether you want to completely remove existing.

  • Pressure washer and when painting a more porous breathable paint then sealer is a better option so you dont have the chipping and flaking again!

Hello Sherry! There are a few reasons why your paint is not sticking to the concrete. Bad prep, moisture, and the wrong paint are probably at the top of the list. Here is a good article that may help you out: https://www.wikihow.com/Paint-Concrete

Cleaning is the biggest part of this job. Instead of paint use Concrete stain instead there is less of a chance of peeling and flaking.

I would recommend using a high pressure power washer to remove the chipping paint.
