How do I get the smell of rotting milk out of my upholstery?
White vinegar will get the smell out. Just add a cup to your washload. Better yet, rinse the tub out with vinegar & hot water prior to washing. Sometimes I use baking soda. Old time remedies work!
Try a white vinegar/lemon rinse
I would check how the washer smells before you use it. May need to run it with some baking soda in it. If you leave the laundry too long in the washer, it gets musty fast too, and it stays musty when you dry it. Have you tried smelling the water ?
I put vinegar in the softener cup and you can't even smell the scent from the detergent, so it won't have that odor you don't like. I use dryer sheets, my sensitive skin hubby can't handle any of the fabric softeners except one brand of softener sheets, have used the same brand soap and softener sheets for thirty seven years because of this. I have found that the extra rinse helped with that wash odor in the clothes before I started using vinegar (still do the extra rinse to make sure the soap residue is all out).
Baking soda or borax will remove odors, as will vinegar. The only other idea would be to store it with cedar balls after laundering for a natural smell.
Make sure you leave your washer open after use (but not if you have children who can climb up to it and fall in). Also, at the Dollar store you can get spray fabric refresher. It works just as well as Febreeze brand and really seems to last. It is so worth the dollar! Make sure to spray both sides of garment. It is best to let it set at least a couple of minutes before you fold because this product works by lifting out the odor as it evaporates. It is not just a cover up. Also, be careful with the vinegar in your wash as it can set stains into your wash and they become permanent. It is a good way to keep new clothes from fading though. Hope this helps
Hi JoAnn - I love this laundry detergent that we use. It's an all-natural DIY and made with safe ingredients. You can use it on an HE machine too. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly
