Chevron Style King Size Bed Build

6 Materials
2 Days

Hey Hometalk! This bed is a bit different than the one we recently shared, but the build was similar. The key difference- the chevron style!

Similar to the other bed, you'll want to add the 4 x 4 posts and the side railing the same way.

The spin here is to make a different design.

you will start by making all of the cuts 45 degrees. Then flip the boards up against each other and face up.

Repeat this until you have the pattern like the one pictured here.

The last step for the headboard was to trim off the edges that hang off the end. Use a circular saw, and then add a nice trim to hold everything together. Having a rectangle shape laid out is helpful to make sure you are making each piece long enough to reach the end of the frame. This is shown in the picture above.

Once the bed was put together, I sprayed on the stain with a sprayer. (This is a different bed, but I used the same technique)

This is the finished bed in it's new home. It looks great!

Hope you like it too!

I would try this, it looks simple enough for someone with basic tools and knowledge to do. My question is? Since most boards are not straight, once the 45 is cut, how do you keep the board toward the outside from bowing and a large space from showing between the two boards? Is it filled in with some kind of filler?

We cut the boards at a 45 then flipped them and nailed them down in place. We were particular when selecting boards at our local Lowes.

Beautiful job. And I love the idea of spraying the stain , so going to try this! Since spraying the stain it would be a very light coat did you have to wait a few minutes wipe down and repeat until you reached the color depth you were aiming for ?

Yes. You want to do light coats so it doesn’t run. Then just make a couple of passes.

The resource list shows a gel stain which is very thick. Did you use a gel stain in your sprayer or a traditional stain?

Traditional spray was used in the sprayer. Thanks for asking.

I wonder if hitting it with a clear varnish would have brought out the colors more
