  • To raise the counter height, you need to raise the cabinets along with it. You may need a plumber to move the connections for you too. Simple and easy is not in the equasion, but it can be done. First you need to disconnect all the plumbing and remove. Then remove the counter top. Then remove cabinets from wall. Decide how much higher you need to go. Then replumb if necessary. Reinstall cabinets, then countertop and attach plumbing. Then you can clean, prime and paint the cabinets.

You can raise your bathroom cabinet/vanity by putting feet on it. I like the feet that come with brackets that you attach first. The feet then just screw into the brackets. Downside to having feet on your vanity/cabinet is that you have a great place under the cabinet/vanity to collect dust that's hard to reach. A swiffer duster with a long arm works.

You also need to pay attention to where any existing electrical outlets are. I bought a new vanity with feet that was taller but then I had to change the feet on it because it was too tall for my existing outlets. I swapped out the taller for shorter. I also had to make sure that the vanity top I purchased would be under the outlets as well. It eventually worked out great--I still have a taller vanity than I had before. I could have raised the outlet box but that meant cutting into the drywall and making some repairs. One more job in the bathroom remodel that I just didn't want to do!

You can paint your cabinets/vanity with a latex acrylic paint in an enamel finish. Prime first. This paint is made for painting trim and cabinets. It wears well and washes well.

Two ways to raise the counter height. Disconnect the plumbing from underneath. Build a frame to go on top of the cabinet and under the countertop. You can also add a base to the bottom of the cabinet.

To paint, lightly sand to remove any shine. Prime with Kilz primer. Paint your color. Seal with three coats of a water based polyurethane.

Raising would depend on the current design. Sometimes it might just be easier to replace what's already there.

For painting i would use Dixie Belle Paint. You can get it online and it's so easy to worth with. Plus they have a wonderful selection of colors.
