You can sand, prime and paint laminate as if it were a solid wood piece of furniture! It's easy to skip the sanding step, because sanding is a drag… but it's especially important with laminate. Because it's often somewhat glossy-looking, and important to sand it down until the finish is very dull before priming.Mar 16, 2017
Clean it well, scuff up the surface with sandpaper. Then use a good primer. I like Zinsser BIN because it sticks to anything. Then paint. For a table top, I suggest 2-3 coats of polycrylic to protect the finish. For best results, don't sit anything on it for 30 days so that it can cure properly.

It is super easy to paint with Dixie Belle.
Step one: Clean with White Lightning
Step two: Apply two coats of Slick Stick
Step three: Paint one to two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint
Step four (optional): Use any of our clear coats or waxes for extra protection or a different style finish
No sanding required!

Because you're working with laminate, you'll want to prime the table with really good bonding primer like BIN Shellac based primer.
