Would like to change kitchen backsplash but do not want to tear it out. Can I contact it with good results? Thanks in advance.

  • I've seen people use vinyl, so it would probably work. Just keep in mind that removing it in the future might be painful.

If your old tile is clean and dry it should stay on. You will see any lines and grooves however from grout lines as you press the Contac paper over the old tile. It is a fairly inexpensive project however so try one roll and see what you think. Many years ago I used Contac paper as a backsplash in my first home and it stayed put for a few years. It was not installed over tile.

    Hi Lori,

It depends on the condition of what you're trying to cover. If it isn't is good condition, contact paper won't work. If your tile is ceramic, the paper won't stick to the lower grout lines. You need a smooth surface for it to stick. If the surface is smooth, then use Contact brand paper that is designed to be removable in case you or someone else wants to change it in the future. Wishing you the best.
