Even old Formica will retain some shiny areas and some of the indentions. I would sand the entire top with about a 120 or 140 grit. Then I would dry brush a stenciled design all over the Formica. I would restain the wood on top, then use a clear sealer to preserve my work. Best to you, Stephanie!
