Banging noises in your water pipes are more than an annoyance -- they're bad for the pipes and they might end up causing a leak. "Water hammer" causes thesounds, and it happens because water flow starts and stops suddenly as thewashing machine runs through its cycle and the water valves open and close.

    How to fix water hammer

    1. Shut off the water to your home at the main.
    2. Open the highest faucet in your home.
    3. Open the lowest faucet (it's usually outside or in the basement) and let all the water drain out. ...
    4. Turn the lowest faucet off (the one you opened in step #3) and turn the water main back on.

If you don't have the User's Manual for your machine, you should download one from the internet. The manual should be able to help you under the "Troubleshooting" section. If not, it should at least provide you with a phone number to Customer Service to help you.
