How to make a hat pin cushion with material?

Taking material to make a hat shape for a pin cushion and using a old used table leg or a candle holder as a stand.

I would shape the hat lined with cotton batting around a styrofoam egg or ball, big enough for hat pins to go almost all the way in. Gather the material at the bottom with thread, cord, or hot glue. Stain or paint the base, then hot glue the hat on top. Add a little bling and you ought to have a nice project. Please post your project!
