Hi ! After not having much success with cast iron pans , I love cooking them , but I couldn't keep them from dusting , even with seasoning. Finally I saw a show on the food network , I don know if I can say names , but he always explained how & why things are done in certain ways & the scientific reason behind it ... Anyway I tried , what he said and my own is great !!!!!!!! It is like a non stick pan , it cleans well and haven't had an issue with rust , since. And it's been at least 10 years !!! His way ,

Be patient !!! For a new pan ( if doing it with a pan you already have , wash it well and follow same instructions ) wait until you are using the oven and then lightly grease the pan with vegetable oil then put it in a 350° oven for a half hour , shut the oven off and leave it in the oven until it's cool. Now , this is where the patience comes in ... Repeat this 3-5 times !!! Don't use it before that !!! I started using mine after the fourth time. Once a year I repeat this process , but just 1x in the oven .

  • This is a great tutorial on how to clean, season, and care for cast iron skillets. Hope it helps! Hugs, Holly

wash it clean, wipe it with grease/lard/ with a paper towel real thoroughly, bake in oven at 250 deg F for an hour. This should set the cast iron. Do not scrub with soapy water after. Simply wipe it clean
