Hi, Seal the table with a Polyerothane(not sure about spelling) This is what they use on bar counters, thus no watermarks. High Sheen or low sheen.

A darker stain with polyurethane will not show stains as much as a lighter finish. Just be sure to sand it down first.
If you really want to go big, try a broken CD mosaic. Also finish with poly. The CD mosaic looks fabulous with candles lit!

Whatever finish yo decide upon, make sure your use trivets and place mats (or a tablecloth) to protect your pretty finish. (I'm a big fan of polyurethane.)
