Do it over time. I choose a project for each season or year. This year I am working on the flower bed right outside my bedroom window and removing some of my front lawn using xeriscape principles. Plan it out, calculate supplies and have fun with it!
All the zeriscapes around here are just lawns that die from drought and weeds take over between the rocks in the kaliechi.
Educate yourself first. Many xeriscape plants are native vegetation and sometimes you can get permits to harvest these from public lands for transplant. Check with your local community outreach such as college extension offices. They are a wealth of knowledge
