I have a lot of house plants but my cats like to dig in them and nibble on them. How can I keep them away?

Hi B, this is Peggy. Here are some ways to keep your cats out of your indoor plants. Be safe and don't have poisonous plants they may eat. Good luck

Sprinkle cayenne pepper around the leaves of houseplants and your cat will back away pretty quickly. Cats also hate the smell of citrus. Put orange and lemon peels in your pots along with the plants to help deter them. Another option is spraying the leaves directly with diluted lemon juice or orange oil.Apr 4, 2018

I probably won’t use the cayenne pepper (wouldn’t want a chance of it getting into their eyes) wondering if the diluted lemon juice would harm the plant leaves. I have several Christmas cactus plants I want to protect.

I have heard placing the snap mousetraps in the plants will keep the cats away. You will probably have to keep resetting them for a while!

My cats are more important than the plants, there’s no way I would use mouse traps that could harm them.

Try putting rocks on top of the soil , that should help with the digging part. You need to be careful about your cat eating the plants !!! Some plants are poisonous! Try getting kitty grass, it helps with there digestion.

I am a rescuer and have had as many as 10 cats. just luck maybe but they never dig in the soil. as for eating plants, give them something that they like and is safe. I have 2 large (20") pots of lemon grass that I keep for cooking and tea. the cats like it and when they have hairballs or eat too fast, they chew on lemon grass. Or you could get "cat grass" at Petsmart and keep a pot of that for them.

Place plastic forks around the plates...handle in soil. Won’t hurt the cat, but they don’t like spiky forks.
