my washing machine is clogged. Went through wash cycle, but stopped at rinse cycle. It is getting old, but always worked fine until today. I'm debating whether to replace it or repair it. Any do it yourself ideas?

  • Being clogged can easily be fixed. I would keep it for now.

I have a 19 year old Maytag and have been looking at washing machines just in case mine dies and is not worth repairing. I will be hard pressed to find a quality washing machine without spending a small fortune.

    • How funny! Go for it, I bet it will be a simple fix. I agree, the old machine were better made than the new computerized models, which I don't want. Too much to go wrong. Give me a simple basic washing machine. My laundry isn't that complicated! Yes, that is Bailey with me in the photo, she is a handful. I have 3 dogs, 6 cats, a canary and a dragon. All rescues or hand me down pets from those that have passed on. Good luck and keep us posted! 🌞

Hi Jane, try a reset, follow these instructions

Unplug the washer for 1 minute from the electrical outlet. Plug the washer back in and lift and lower the lid 6 times within a 12 second period. You have 30 seconds to start lifting and lowering the lid. ... The motor has now been reset and is ready for you to start a cycle. This is the reset for a whirlpool

Once the motor or transmission dies is when to replace. A lot of older washers are more dependable and last longer than the new ones. They don't make them like they used to.
