Joan....I use a pan of warm water with vinegar & Dawn...pull everything away from the wall and get in the floor then go around with a good rag and start cleaning. I guess you call it "get down and dirty"!
Hi. Ugh! terrible job. Take a small broom and put a dust rag around the bristles. Secure with a rubber band. You can dampen it or just use Endust or another dust repel-er on the cloth. Happy cleaning!
Bucket of very mild soapy water (grease cutting soap, but very little of it) cotton rags and an old soft bristle tooth brush. I would keep one rag for wet cleaning and one for drying, as I go.
I wouldn't leave standing water on them, nor the wall and the flooring.
If you need to put a sheen on the molding again, is it because there's a build-up of old wax or is it water damage or? If it needs to be scrubbed with Murphy's Oil Soap solution, I'm always amazed that it takes off a lot of gummy finishes and often makes the wood look a lot lighter, which forces me to do the whole room. So, take your time on evaluating what to do, if the very mild soapy water doesn't work to your satisfaction.
I would consider what the source of the problem is before putting something like furniture polish on it or "Scott's Liquid Gold", as they will draw and hold future dust.
It's tedious, so I do a cheater's method: of every time I use a paper towel just to dry my hands, I moisten it just a little more with plain water and wipe down something in the room, then throw it away after it's good and dirty. That way I'm constantly keeping up with the dust in the easy to get-to areas.
