First google your city + growing zone. You need to know your growing zone in order to only purchase plants that are meant to grow in your locale. You then need to determine how much sunlight the containers will get. Once you know these 2 things, you can google "perennial flowers for growing zone xyz full sun" for example and know precisely what will do well! Happy growing! 😎👍💐

Oops! Your question got cut off, but to select plants, make sure the ones you pick are right for the spot. If it receives a lot of sun, pick sun-lovers but know you will still need to water often. The container will dry out more quickly than if the plants were in the ground. The general rule is: height in the center, then color, then trailers around the perimeter. Happy gardening!

See what's selling at your local nursery and ask their salespeople for suggestions. Most will give free garden plans with purchase.
