Why is my ceiling and roof leaking?

I have an A-frame roof with vaulted ceilings, during the winter half of my ceiling will leak once the snow and ice starts to melt. I have a wood stove that penetrates that side of the ceiling that leaks, could it be that ice forms between the rafters and the heat from the stove pipe causes it to melt and drip through the ceiling?? There is insulation between the roof rafters. The house/roof is only 5 1/2 years old.

  • It could be, but I would hire a professional to look at it.

Sounds possibly correct. You have an ice dam forming and when it melts the water finds the least path of resistance. I doubt heat from the from the stove pipe may be a contributing factor. The stove pipe is triple wall insulated. Another possibility is the flashing around the stove pipe failed and that is where the leak is entering the roof. Since the roof is only 5 1/2 years old it may still be under warranty.

It probably just needs tar all around the stove pipe
