How do you kill roots of trees?

Are the roots still alive and growing? If so, and you have enough stump left, cut off more stump down to fresh wood, make some criss cross cuts across the top, paint with straight Roundup and sprinkle salt on top. This will kill the roots. To get rid of them you will either have to dig them up or wait for them to rot (years). Good luck

Another tough situation. If the stumps are still there you can get a trunk and root killer. You may have to dig up the roots.

If they are actually regrowing new trees you can use Round-Up it is applied to new growth absorbed into stems/stalks then into root system killing plant ; the woodier the stalk,stems,trunks the stronger the solution you'll need--you'll need to get concentrate & use it straight use food coloring to dye it (so you can see where you have applied it) don't get in wet solution,don't use in breeze or wind,wear gloves. you'll need to repeat process spraying onto each new start/sprout you see coming up. you can dump onto stumps but you'll need to dig it out some making like a small bowl ontop to hold concentrate so it will be absorbed. Anytime you cut off trees,shrubs,plants all you are doing is basically prunning it encouraging it to regrow elsewhere "Mother Nature" is miraculous like that, plants trying to defy the odds & survive, some plants are much more hardy so getting them to stop growing is much more time consuming.

If you own a mattock tool, you can also try chipping away at tree roots to hasten their demise. If you can burn, you can drill large holes in the stump, fill with a liquid available at agricultural stores, then ignite the liquid. Otherwise, pour "Hot Lime " and Borax down the holes and water, slightly. The combination is repoted to draw moisture from the stump, killing it.

Sprinkle Salt around the base of the tree.
