Can you restore natural stone?

My shower floor is little squares of natural stone. I thought it looked like soap scum. So I cleaned it with several tile cleaners, even muranic acid. Well it looks worse. I think I wore top layer of the stones. Is there anything that can be done to make it look better?

Not really. Using muriatic acid the surface is etched.

Yes, you chemically wore the finish off of the stones. Marbles are notorious for this and I will never ever use marble tiles nor marble slabs anywhere in my house again. Travertine is a marble.

You'll have to re-seal it with a stone sealer, that permeates the stones. Take your time and read the labels before you buy them.

In a shower it will have to be re-sealed every 2-3 months, sorry. My poor shower "shampoo ledge" not only had ruined finish, the streaks from the soap residue went right through the marble tiles on the wall too. I hand-re-colored the marble tiles to match with permanent black and brown markers, blending it with my finger, while it was "wet" and then re-sealed it again. What a headache.

Absolutely! It is much like polishing a car. There are kits online that include polishing and buffing compounds for natural stone.
