I have cast iron grates on my gas stove. I use a wire scrubber hot water and dish soap. Then do one of 2 things .. dry them off and either put them back on burners and turn them on until grates are hot and dry or put them in your oven at 150-200 degrees until dry this is the same as a cast iron skillet except do not season them :)))

Hi Sarah, a very easy way to clean all of the grates, grills, and even cast iron skillets is to place a glass bowl of ammonia in the oven with the items. Let them remain there overnight with the oven door closed. After several hours, the items will be easy to clean with hot soapy water. Just be sure to not get the ammonia on you, in your eyes, and don't inhale the fumes. This works for outdoor grills and grates as well. Just plop them into a heavy duty garbage bag, add ammonia and seal the bag well overnight. The gunk will rinse right off with a garden hose. Once again be careful!
