In areas of high humidity they do rust, usually on the innerdoor or the frame the door hooks into.
First remove the rust and make sure the area is dry. Then paint with a microwave cavity paint product available at Amazon.
Let that dry and you are ready to go.

I think you could paint the outer box of the microwave. You can use chalk based paint or a paint that will stick to metal.
