How do I paint an outdoor patio canvas umbrella?

I would try cleaning it first. I don't know if there is a paint, but check with a paint store for advise.

I just did the last spring. I just used cheap spray paint from Walmart (96 cents a can) and used 6 cans. But I took a ugly plaid Salvation Army umbrella and turned it into a nice looking shade maker.

Don't make the mistake I made buy a trigger for spray paint so you can do this without killing off a finger. To make this look good you need to think ahead of time about masking off the edging or trim that goes around the outer edge. Also are you going to keep the under side the same color or paint that too. If you do paint it you will need even more paint. Here is a good article I found and referred to a lot.
