Sometimes I think you just have to get one of those small grader or bulldozer machines and scrape off the top layer and start over. Get your soil tested and consider how much sun/shade you have and use grass appropriate for those conditions. Use the library, computer or someone who knows what they're talking about. Zoysia grass usually grows well in sun or partial shade. I'd have a lawn service take care of things until established if you can afford it. Zoysia also keeps out weeds well once established.
are you talking about grass seeds? veggies, flowers??
I'm following this post, as we have the same problem here! It is "mud-fest" every spring, and the thistles are thriving all summer long....
I saw you post on jar recycling. I also have MS and love to paint. If you’d like to email, my address is glendahendry@yahoo.com. Gardening was a hobby for me as well, but preparing a yard would be overwhelming! I would add compost, as much as possible, especially to low muddy areas. Are you planting grass? If flowers and/or shrubs, I’d use landscaping fabric or a heavy mulch (wood chips or bark) to prevent weeds. I’d personally try to make it maintenance free!
