I spray painted my wrought iron white bench on my porch over the years, now it has built up paint and is not smooth, I want to refinish it. What should I use?

Personally, i would use an electric sander with a wire metal brush/bristle attachment. This will begin chipping through the many layers of paint. Also, a wired bristle brush is another useful tool, but require some muscle. Good luck.

An easy and inexpensive paint stripper is 20 mule team borax. Mix it into a paste, put it on, wrap it with plastic to keep in the moisture and leave it alone to do its job. You'll find the paint will slowly lift off the metal and can be peeled off in strips. Another good product that is inexpensive is TSP. It also can be mixed as a paste and put on the same way. Again, the paint will pull off in strips once it has had time to saturate the layers. The plastic keeps the moisture in and helps it work harder and faster.

I have a metal piece that attaches to the drill to hit and strip off the paint.

I have mine sand blasted. Surprised it wasn't too exspensive. A 36" bench was $40. Perfectly striped and ready to paint.

Hi Linda. I doubt a liquid product would work as efficiently as simply sanding it off. A little hand held sander will remove the larger areas but you'll also need to hand sand those intricate areas.
