How old is old? Are they wood framed, aluminum, vinyl, etc.? There will be no difference in cleaning methods from those used today. If your windows have non removeable muntins, it merely adds to the time required to clean.
If the windows are Pella, do not use alcohol or ammonia on the glass, as it can cause fogging. You should be able to locate the window manufacturer's name on the glass. Go to their website for cleaning information.
If they look cloudy or dirty between the glass there is no way to clean or repair. The glass panels would need to be replaced. Not the whole window. Ace Hardware sells double glass panels and also install.
