Note: the tall bushes in the front along with the yellow forsythia is gone. The under trimming of the roof is brown.

Hi there, I think a dark blue might be a nice contrast with the same color trim to make it all cohesive.

Yep I think that would help give it a more cohesive look, painting out all of the trim on the entire home the same color. After that I picked blue just because the siding and the brick will never be the same might as well embrace it :) Blue/gray and brown/red generally create a nice contrast!

I'd leave it brick, but I'd paint trim on other part of house(greenside) white around windows and brown eaves to blend it all together. It's nice

Thanks Lynn! I was so consumed with the color of the house....it never occurred to me to paint the trim around the windows! You all picked that out right away!

If you want it all uniform ...brick color this needs the brick color for all of house,my opinion ,the rust gutter needs to be painted same as brick portion of home`s gutter,I see brick ,white and grey, the bright white of windows and door ...not really flowing here, accent the green color of your gutters for windows frames , door painting the recessed brick above back door same color as door, and add a iron ornamental fixture, some rose bushes and flowering plants...good luck

Irene, just so I'm clear, your saying paint the green side of the house a brick color? Making it all uniform? If so....that's what I was thinking. I like the idea of painting above the door the same as the door. As far as the green (yuck!) I hate that color. It's the color I really want to get rid of :/ I did plant hostas in front with some grasses and the shrubs along the retaining wall are about 3' tall now. I'm hoping to make a hedge row. Love your ideas and I appreciate the imput! Thank you!

I'd paint the green white to match trim of the brick side; especially since you hate the green color (me too).

Paint same color as brick so if looks like 1 house.

  • DesertRose DesertRose on Feb 20, 2019

Perhaps you could paint it to match the under trimming of brown, or the color of your fence next to the brick.

  • DesertRose DesertRose on Feb 20, 2019

Also, I meant to say, paint the window sills the same as the brick window sills also.

Our house was half brick half siding when we bought it. We stained the brick--stain absorbs into the brick and won't flake off like paint will--and painted the siding with paint the exact color of the stain we used on the brick. Now--10 years later, it still looks great and it is cohesive because the house is all the same color. I have not regretted for one second staining the brick. This is, of course, a decision only you can make, but no matter what color you choose for the siding, it will always be a house that is two different colors unless you unify it which will greatly minimize the difference between the two materials. Just one more idea for you to consider.

Thanks Debi, thats a great idea. I'll look into stain. So can you buy a paint and a stain the same color? Also what brand did you use?

  • Gina Hanson Gina Hanson on Feb 20, 2019

The other thing I think you need to consider is if your intention is to highlight the siding side of the house or the brick side. I would do the window sills and the trim all the same color on both sides. I like Debi's idea to stain and paint the entire house the same color. Or keep all the trim/sills the same and do the siding a complementary color to the brick that you actually like. Many homes use 2-3 different materials - brick and vinyl, or stone and brick, etc. Just not usually side by side! To me, it all depends on your intention and desired outcomes. Good luck!

Yes Gina, I agree! Definitely make the trim ALL uniform. I know!!!!!....It's the side/side that's driving me crazy! I'm a DIY'er and money is always somewhat of an issue. I am going to go to my local paint store (Sherwin Williams) and ask about the stain and matching paint. I like that idea. Thank you all for your input, I so appreciate it! If you have any other ideas, please shoot me a message.
