You could try starting a garden area by putting down newspaper (weighted down with bricks, stones or concrete block) to kill off weeds and grass. When the grass and weeds are dead, you can turn over the soil and mixed in decayed leaves and dried grass clippings. You then need to pick what you want to plant. Peas are an easy crop that you can plant in early spring in some areas if you want to get started right way. Decide where you want it , what you want to plant so you'll know how big to make it and whether you want it ground level or raised, with wooden frame around it or just on the ground. You can take the turf off or til/shovel it under. You probably won't need to build the soil since it has just been 'yard' for who knows how long. After you get your soil prepared make your rows and plant as directions on seed pkt. instructs.

You will need some tools--hoe to make the rows, shovel maybe, tiller or maybe you can rent one if making garden on ground. There are so MANY options on how to do things. My way may not be the way for you but it gives you some idea to bounce off of. Good luck. It can be very rewarding.

I always ask google how to do anything, but I have made a garden.
