If you did not know it yet, Scrunchies are back in fashion (who would of thought..Ha ha) My daughter being a big fan ask me to make her a stand for her beauty bar to display all her scrunchies. This was the stand I made, which can also be used to store watches or bracelets.

These were the materials that I used, all from my recycled bin in my workshop. The base was off-cuts of pine. The thicker pole was an old wooden curtain rail and the smaller poles are dowel off-cuts.

I cut the dowel and the curtain pole to the size that I wanted, mine was 25cm and clamped them to the table to hold them firm while I added my holes for the dowels to fit in.

I used a large drill bit the size of the dowel and drilled holes through the pole. My idea was to drill the holes and just push the dowel through. But while I was drilling I must have gone skew because the dowel would not fit through the holes. So make sure you drill your holes straight or use a drill press if you are lucky enough to have one.

To make the base, I cut the scrap wood to the size I wanted. Mine was 20cm x 10cm x2cm. I found the centre of my piece of wood and marked it out ready to add my hole for the centre pole. I used a 25mm spade bit to cut a hole all the way through the base. Because my base was not very thick this would add more support to my pole when fully loaded. I only cut half way through at first and had to go back and do the other half when I noticed the pole was not stable.

I used a wood router with a round over bit and removed all the edges for a nicer cosmetic look, and use an orbital sander to smooth out the surface.

To secure my pole into the base I used epoxy glue. It was here I drill all the way through the base. I mixed the epoxy glue and added it to the inside of the hole and added my pole.

I painted the stand using acrylic paint and glued an old doorknob onto the top for a nicer look. To protect the surface of her dresser I cut some self-adhesive felt and stuck it to the bottom of the stand. And that was the stand done ready to go into her beauty bar.

The cost of this project will depend on what you have at home. Mine did not cost me anything because I build from what I had at home.
