How do I update my irreplaceable fireplace mantle on a budget?

I have a dated brick fireplace I’d like to update without replacing. I’ve painted the bricks white which looks awesome, But now the dated brass plated doors and oak mantle look very dated.

How about sanding the mantle and staining it a rich dark stain or wax? Painting the brass doors black would really look great against the white bricks and make it all look more contemporary. Have fun with it
They make flat black spray paints for wood stoves so they are for use in high heat areas. Amazon carries a lot to choose from (more colors then just black):

What’s old is new again. You could decorate around the mantle enhancing the wood instread of chaging it. Just a thought
