How do I refresh this electric burner?

recently I noticed these heavy white stains on my stovetop. Started lightly and have worsened. Have never used any abrasive cleaners or wipes. No debris, stains are smooth. Could my pots/frying pans have done this? It’s on a 17-year old GE range. Thx!

Hi there, Use Ceramic Top Cleaner.

Thx! Tried that before it got this bad and it didn’t remove it. I’ll try again!

  • And I forgot to mention that it could be hard water stains, not scratches. Hope this helps!

Does the stain feel smooth to the touch? If rough feeling, would a razor scraper made for glass tops help? Otherwise just use the cream cleanser.

Scrub Daddy with cold, distilled water would be a good place to start.

I have use Brillo pads on mine and Bar Keeps scouring powder with a scrubbing pad. I have had no problems with either of these methods scratching my top

I use baking soda and vinegar for my old glass top. Yes, some pots and pans (as they age) will leave a residue on the glass tops. Make a paste with the soda and vinegar, let sit about three minutes then use a little elbow grease to scrub the surface. Once you have cleaned the areas completely, rinse with very warm water. To keep from happening again, do this weekly. It gets easier as time goes by.

I use regular ceramic stove top cleaner. Let dry after putting it on and then scrub around the stain with a paper towel. Obviously heavier areas need 3-4 swipes. After cooking clean the burner affected and don't allow a buildup of grease, etc. Don't use the burner until the boil overs or whatever are cleaned, it will get worse and worse. Barkeepers Friend has a ceramic stove top cleaner, but I believe others purchased at the local grocery are just as effective. I suppose a small scraper could be used, but be cautious. The primary key to a clean stove top is to clean on a regular schedule and don't let grease, etc. just sit there.

I used a razor blade scrapper for really bad stuck on stuff.

If the top is smooth and you have had no luck with various cleansers, you may want to consider that those marks are cracks on the underside.

Hard to tell from a picture, but looks like it might be cracked under the ceramic. After 17 years of use, it is quite logical this could happen.

If not, I use Mr Clean Erasers on mine. Scrape off all excess with a nylon scraper and let areas "soak" with baking soda. It can scratch porcelain as it is abrasive. Gently wipe up baking soda and use the eraser.

I do use cook top cleaners occasionally to buff and shine. Windex works almost as well, too.

Clean it off with oven cleaner. That is what I do and found it cleans faster and easier.

If you don’t like the smell of oven cleaner, you could wipe a little ammonia cleaner on it, then cover with plastic wrap. Leave overnight and wipe off. This is how I clean all

my glass pans, gas burner grates,, bbq racks, except after I lightly spray them I place them in plastic bags and seal. For large items I use trash bags, fold over and cloth pin shut.
