Clean often to remove body oils and dirt
Don't use harsh chemicals
Use leather conditioner to help protect and preserve the surface
Don't place your leather furniture in direct sunlight

Not really to prevent it. Caring for the leather will help. Use saddle soap to clean it. Leather conditioner to keep it soft and supple. Anything else can dry it out and that's when it cracks.

Bonded leather is plastic with leather fiber at the back. After ages, it starts peeling and cracking until the whole piece is shredded like a plastic.

It is not repairable. It would be best if you replaced the whole piece.

Basically it's a handmade material made from shredded leather coated with polyurethane to give a shape of leather texture.
