there are 'no skid' products that are not as 'permanent' as carpet tape ... cut to fit; it's like a 'BIG' version of non-skid shelf 'Non Skid Rug pads'. Really good carpet tape may pull fibers or leave a stain.

Carpet Tape Sandy. Otherwise if you need more Permanent resolve you either:

    I. Get an Insulated Foam Pad if you do not already have one.

II. If you do have the Foam Padding:

    A. Inlay the carpet and foam by A Frame constructed around it that attaches the Carpet to the Frame and the Frame to the floor or the walls.

    B. Install Velcro attached to the Insulation Foam layer and the Carpet.

    C. Use Carpet Tacks to take a Trim to the Carpet and Fasten the trim to the floor.

I found a simple & inexpensive solution for this problem. I purchased Vinyl Sit Spot markers on Ebay. Teachers use them to assign spots for Elementary School students to sit on the carpeted floor for various activities. I bought a package of 30 -5" circles for $10.98. One side is flat and the other side has thousands of Velcro fingers that do an amazing job of gripping the carpet. The shorter the pile the better the grip. (not recommended for shag carpeting). To attach the circles to the back of my area rugs I used a Glue Gun & I found that Gorilla Glue Sticks work the best. I melted several blobs of hot glue to the flat side of the circles and placed one in each corner and one in the center of my area rugs. I stepped on each one as I placed them on the rug to flatten them as much as possible before they had a chance to set. After doing this my area rugs haven't move at all.
