It will depend on your existing frame. Remove mattress and box spring to measure your bed frame. Then get 2-by lumber to build a wood frame to place on top. Set the lumber on edge to get 1.5, 3.5, 5.5, 7.5, or 11.5 inches of height depending on what you want or need. I would add a piece of lumber on each end and sides and another lengthwise down the middle. Then add some 1x4 slats across from side-to side to support the box spring. If you only have a mattress, then add a sheet of plywood on top instead of the slats.

When I was small many many years back. My dad built a platform bed, he used two chest of drawers and then built a platform across these. The back was supported by wood screwed along the back wall and the sides up to the drawer units. There was a dressing table underneath. This lasted years and was only taken down as we had all left home.

I have seen a similar design recently, but they used kitchen drawer units which are deeper.
