How do I hang a Cowboy Bell?

I want to hang a old style cowboy bell to at my front door area. The area is made of limestone. I would hate to drill into this area. It weighs 5 lbs.Does anyone know of a replacement idea?

One possibility would be Command strips. I use hooks with the strips to hang wreaths outside, and the picture strips to hang all my paintings and pictures. The texture may or may not be a problem (on the wall). You would need to clean it well and then allow plenty of drying time for the strip under the best temperature (see packaging for instructions). I've used them on uneven surfaces, so it is possible. Watch the weight limit of whatever you use. Another thought, is if you plan to leave it there, you want it to stay put. For that, you may need to use a more permanent installation method.

Looks like stucco, I don't think a command strip will stick. Either find another place to hang it or be prepared to drill.

Command strips won't work. Try using construction adhesive and glue a board to the wall. Then you can screw the bracket into the board. Pain stain the board. Otherwise you will need to drill into the wall.

I appreciate all your thoughts. I don't think Command Strips will work on this project. As I said the wall is limestone. That's rock in Texas. Seems like we grow it here ;) I thought about a bracket. Also researched some glue options.

If you know anything more, please send it my way! Thank You!

    Hi !

A couple of thoughts on your bell and how to hang it... first I definately wouldn't

Hang it on the house , for one it is very heavy and two , it is cast iron and it can rust , even if you coat it , the back of the brace would eventually rust and stain your home. If you have a wood porch post, that would be a better place to put it. I have one of the bells , with a black cat on top , they are very loud ! I placed mine by my kitchen entrance , screwed into a stud , for support . I use it as a true dinner bell ( or any meal ) I ring it

When a meal is about to go on the table, my husband can hear it from anywhere in the house , or the yard , if there is an open window. Good luck !

Agree with everyone who said that command strips will not work on stucco walls.

    Hi Lexia,

After mulling over a good practical solution for awhile, I came up with something pretty close to what Pamela said, she gas the best solution!

I used screws on my cowboy bell. You can always repair the stucco if needed when you take it down. Mine has been attached for about 10 years with no problems.Oh, and mine is outside and It has not rusted, because I sprayed it with Polyurethane.

I have one on a tree and another on 4x4 post. Wood is really the way to go.

I would first screw the bell onto a wood base a little larger than the bell area and paint the wood to match the color of your limestone or house trim. Then i’d remove the bell (temporarily) and mount the wood base onto the limestone with loctite adhesive or another heavy adhesive that will adhere to both stone and wood. After that adhesive has cured and is securely fastened to the limestone, re-screw on the bell to the wooden base. That should help protect the limestone from rust and hold up your bell. Good luck!

Thank You Kristie! This seems well thought out and more angled towards what I was thinking. I like the idea of the wood helping to protect my house.
