How can I repair or reuse water damaged furniture?

We had a flood in our basement and a dresser, entertainment center and a couple of other pieces of furniture were damaged. Is it safe to try and reuse these pieces or how can I repair them and maybe take off any water damage or mold buildup?

First wash down with vinegar and water and spray with Lysol mold killer. Let dry and access the damage. Safe to repair and use. You ca paint or refinish. Insurance should pay for it.

If you can let it air dry outside in the sun after you have thoroughly cleaned it. Make sure there is no mold. Then you can use either Bondo, [yes car repair Bondo] or wood filler to fix any damage. Sand down, then paint. Stain will not work over Bondo or wood filler.

If you have the extra add on for your homeowners insurance it will pay for basement flooding. If not you are on your own.

I wouldn't redo anything upholstered unless you stripped all padding, strips and anything else down to the bare wood. Mold and bacteria will grow in any soft goods.
