How do I clean a cast iron radiator humidifier with rust?
How do I get rid of the rust on my cast iron radiator humidifier? It's 2 pieces, cast iron that sits on the radiator. I fill it with water a few times a week to put moisture into the air as the radiators heat up. It's being overtaken with rust on the inside and it's now rusting out over the edges. (like a bubbling effect) Could I treat it like a cast iron frying pan to get rid of the rust? I know there is a treatment for the frying pans but I would have to look that up! Thank you to anyone that could help me with this!

No Problem. They have the same thing at Lowe's and Home depot.
If it is cast iron, it can be treated like a frying pan, but continued exposure to water, and the trace minerals and chemicals in the water, will continue to erode it. It would require periodic retreating. For your purpose/use, a stainless steel or heavy crock piece would be better suited. Even a heavy cast aluminum, which could be scrubbed out and cleaned, regularly, would work. If you are set on the cast iron piece, consider cleaning well and painting interior with good quality epoxy.
I'll give it a try! Thank you so much, Vicki!

Thank you, Cynthia but it's not my radiators! It's a piece that sits on top of the radiator to put moisture into the air during the heating season, like a humidifier!
