How do I get rid of a Sago palm problem?

We have a fairly large Sago palm tree that is growing over our driveway making it hard to get out of the car. Can we cut it off just above a ‘baby’ growing off the trunk on the opposite side?

The best time to cut back your Sago palm is during the autumn, when it's not producing new leaves. The plant does not like to be disturbed when it is actively growing, make sure you use something really sharp to cut it and protect baby from sun if its not used to direct sunrays; don't water from top at all only down on dirt until cut heals this will reduce any fungal problems on newly cut trunk. You can spray it with Hydrogen peroxide to reduce fungus if it begins, only use the 3% you get from store & only use it if it starts to turn black or moldy just keep it dry and it should be just fine.
